Addabbo leads by setting the example

While some candidates were still on the campaign trail, Senator Joseph Addabbo suspended all campaign activity to help his constituents during Hurricane Sandy. Joe was on the front lines giving a hand wherever he could and deserves a round of applause. If you’re on the fence for Election Day we urge you to consider Joe Addabbo for New York State Senate.

With Ulrich territory underwater, could Sandy have tipped the balance in Addabbo’s favor?

Breezy Point is absolutely devastated after Hurricane Sandy.

In Albany, state senate dems and republicans are in disarray because the dynamics of South Queens may have been changed due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.

The Rockaways, Breezy Point, Broad Channel, Howard Beach – these are the neighborhoods that helped elect Councilman Erich Ulrich but with these neighborhoods devastated and partially submerged, insiders are predicting the destruction may physically stop Ulrich’s base from voting on Election day.

Everyone is worried – what’s not on fire is underwater. Questions are being raised by both camps. Who will come back by Tuesday, and if they do will they vote? How will we perform a pull operation? By boat?

The stakes are extremely high and all eyes are on this race because this seat will decide control of the Senate and that’s why so much money has been poured into Ulrich’s and Addabbo’s campaign war chest.

If the battle shifts the fight to the northern section of the district including the neighborhoods of Maspeth, Middle Village. Glendale and Forest Hills, Ulrich could be at a major disadvantage as the conservative leaning neighborhoods that support Ulrich are unlikely to be concerned about voting when their homes have been destroyed, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Update 12:34PM: Crain’s New York Confirms that the homes of Rep. Bob Turner and Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long have burned down.

Major endorsement could sway undecided voters

With the election less than two weeks away, Chuck's endorsement could help deliver victory for Joe Addabbo.

So who had a great weekend? Last Friday, Senator Chuck Schumer finally read the writing on the wall as he whole heartedly endorsed Joseph Addabbo for state senate and effectively put to rest all hopes of Republican Councilman Eric Ulrich taking the seat.

Press Release: Today in front of the Queens Community House in Forest Hills, alongside local supporters and electeds, Senator Schumer endorsed Senator Addabbo for his third term representing New York Senate’s 15th district.

“Senator Addabbo is an experienced leader, who provides a strong voice for the working people and families of Queens,” said Senator Schumer. “I am proud to endorse Senator Addabbo as he fights for what is right—quality education for our children, affordable and accessible healthcare for the whole community, and stronger common sense gun laws to keep our children and our streets safe.”

“This race is about the working families in our community. It’s about making sure our children receive a good education, about protecting our streets from guns, and about creating jobs in this tough economy. No one knows this more than Senator Schumer, as he has been one of New York’s most loyal and committed advocates,” said Senator Addabbo.

“I am truly honored to have Senator Schumer’s support, as he exemplifies the democratic ideals I believe in so much.”

During his two terms representing New York Senate’s 15th district, Senator Addabbo has fought for the issues that matter most to his constituents including the creation of jobs, access to affordable health care, stronger gun control laws, senior services, and quality education. Senator Addabbo is one of the strongest advocates for raising the minimum wage, and consistently stands up for New York’s working men and women. He is also the ranking member of the Senate Elections Committee.

New York Senate’s 15th district encompasses many Queens neighborhoods including Forest Hills Gardens, Glendale, Hamilton Beach, Howard Beach, Maspeth, Middle Village, Ridgewood, Woodhaven, and parts of Elmhurst, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Ozone Park, Rego Park, Richmond Hill, the Rockaways, and South Ozone Park

The title of this press release explains the priorites of candidates running for office.

Press Release: Senator Addabbo visited Maspeth Senior Center to meet with local seniors and discuss one of the more serious senior-related issues we face today: the ongoing national debate on Medicare.

The issue is particularly important, as the GOP gathers in Tampa for the Convention to nominate the Romney/Ryan ticket, one of the most extreme tickets in party history. The Romney/Ryan plan would gut Medicare, making it insolvent by 2016.

Romney/Ryan’s New York Campaign Chairman, Eric Ulrich, who is also running for NY State Senate’s 15th district, supports this plan and many other ultra-conservative policy initiatives of the Romney/Ryan ticket, making it clear that he remains deeply out of touch with voters in the 15th district.

“From the veterans who have defended us in war, to the parents and grandparents who have made countless sacrifices to build a better future to our community, we owe it to our seniors to make sure they get the care they need in retirement,” said Addabbo. “We need to stop this attack from every angle.”

“It is wrong and unfair to rob our seniors, who’ve given so much to the community, of their right to Medicare and affordable healthcare,” said Addabbo. “I hear that on the ground here every day in my district. “

Senator Addabbo works hard to get results for seniors. He helped create the Gold Alert Program, which will alert the public if an elderly Alzheimer’s patient or vulnerable adult has gone missing, has voted to simplify the renewal process for the Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption Program, and fought to save the Woodhaven Senior Center.

Senator Addabbo schedules weekly visits to his district’s senior centers to discuss local issues, answer questions, and address senior-related concerns.
