While neighborhood residents and preservationists are up in arms over the planned construction of a soccer stadium in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, an aggressive lobbyist effort by Major League Soccer is working the system by targeting everyone from local Community Boards right up to Mayor Bloomberg himself.
Since March, MLS has spent $1,155,777 targeting NYC Council Members, the Mayor, the Borough President, the Public Advocate, Parks and Recreation, The Economic Development Corporation and many more.
Don’t be surprised when these various elected officials and city agencies stay silent or come out in favor of the mega project.
